Sicily Academy with Valerio Agnoli

 

March 13th – March 19th 2022
Difficulty level: challenging

Sicily is the region with some of the most iconic landscapes, architecture and food.  Sicily is also cycling's best-kept secret: a great destination for road cycling. Together with Valerio Agnoli, a former professional racer in Team Astana and Team Liquigas, you will experience an academy that will prepare you both physically and mentally. With an individual approach to achieving your goals, managing physical effort, and problem-solving, you will work to achieve complete psychophysical well-being, setting objectives and receiving daily feedback to achieve that personal satisfaction that only cycling can give.

Day 1 | Arrival

40 km, 200 m    

Welcome to the hotel and briefing. After the presentation, review of equipment, and positioning on the bike being tested, a  personalised training programme will be defined. A short ride, then dinner at the hotel.

 

Day 2 | Mount Etna

58 km, 1900 m  

Today you will face a challenge. The Sapienza Refuge was the scene of the final stages of the Giro d'Italia: it is a long climb through ancient lava flows and craters in an astounding scenario. You will be 3000 metres above sea level. Your Sicilian stay will immediately give you enormous satisfaction! In the afternoon, free time where you can take advantage of the hotel's "wellness" centre. Dinner at the hotel.

 

Day 3 | Taormina   

63 km, 1.100 m

Taormina is one of the most fascinating places in Eastern Sicily. From Corso Umberto, you will reach the Duomo, the  panoramic terrace overlooking the sea of Piazza IX Aprile, the centre of social life, and the famous Greek Theatre. After a short descent, you will reach Isola Bella, the nature reserve praised by Goethe, Byron, and Dillon. Dinner at the hotel.

 

Day 4 | Recovery day. Street food in Catania

Experience Sicily in the streets of one of its typical cities, while the bicycle is resting… Do you want to try the arancini, the ricotta cannolo, the cassatella, the almond paste and the Sicilian granita? Get ready for a walking tour of the city that will offer you an overview of the narrow streets and squares of the historical centre, during which you will taste some of the best culinary delicacies of Catania. Dinner at the hotel.

 

Day 5 | Milazzo

75 km, 1.200 m

Today we will reach Milazzo, on the northern coast. Capo Milazzo and Tindari are fantastic coastal landmarks. How about a dip in the water? And how about tasting Mediterranean swordfish while having lunch overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea? You are in the perfect place for it! Dinner at the hotel.

 

Day 6 | Summary of the training program. Giro dell’Etna

100 km, 1.100 m  

Last ride, and today, you will put into practice everything Valerio has taught you. Today can also be challenging and this will give you the chance to try and overcome any limits you may have set yourself. We will circle circling Mt Etna, Europe’s highest volcano. Final evening dinner.

Day 7 | Conclusion

Staff will greet you with the last spritz of your Italian holiday. Transfer to the airport.

Torbole Academy with Valerio Agnoli

 

April 16th – April 23rd 2022
Difficulty level: challenging

The northern part of Lake Garda is the most scenic and wildest. Tastings of salted meat, grappas, and wines from Trentino will brighten the breaks of your training programme. Valerio will manage a week of personalised training, sharing with you the climbs and the views of Lake Garda. Various exclusive activities, such as visiting Francesco Moser's property and experiencing the final stage of the UCI Tour of the Alps together with its protagonists, complete this holiday which will improve your cycling technique and make you experience Lake Garda at its very best!

Through this academy, guests will live the bicycle as a means of physical and mental preparation, thanks to a training course developed with the Ferrari Team.

Accommodation: Aktivhotel Santa Lucia is the official bike retreat of the Italian cycling team!  

 

Day 1 | Arrival in Torbole

50 km, 200 m   

Welcome to the hotel and briefing. After the presentation, verification of equipment, and the positioning on the bike. Tests will be carried out and the planning of a personalised training programme will take place. Dinner at the hotel.   

 

Day 2 | Panoramic ascent of Malcesine 

70 km, 600 m  

On this day you will cycle along the Gardesana state road to get to Malcesine. After a visit to the beautiful old town we will climb towards the "Panoramica" slope, for about 5 pleasant km, known as the "Poggio”.  Post-workout at the Aktivhotel Santa Lucia spa. Wine and olive oil tasting in the hotel cellar. Dinner at the hotel.  

 

Day 3 | Tremosine, Tignale, San Michele   

60 km 1.200 m

Breathtaking itinerary on the western shore of Garda, a must-see “panorama”. The assistance of the van will allow you to avoid the long tunnels of the western Gardesana road. Post-workout at the Aktivhotel Santa Lucia spa. Pizza party at the hotel.  

 

Day 4 | Day of rest, guided tour of the cellar and the distillery   

0 km, 0 m  

We will dedicate the day to resting. In the morning you will be free and in the afternoon we will visit the wine estate of Francesco Moser, followed by a visit to Marzadro’s famous distillery. Dinner at the hotel.  

 

Day 5 | Tour of the Alps final stage  

70 km, 1.300 m

Today we will have the exclusive opportunity to ride the official final stage of the UCI professional Tour Of The Alps competition. After testing the route, we will attend the arrival of the protagonists of world cycling and you will get to meet them thanks to Valerio Agnoli, a perfect guide who will take you behind the scenes of a professional race.

 

Day 6 | Summary of the training program, Trento

100 km, 1.100 m  

This is the day to put everything Valerio has transmitted to you during this incredible week into practice. It could be a challenging ride! We will conclude the day with dinner with all the staff in Piè di Castello, near Tenno. 

 

Day 7 | Conclusion 

You will enjoy your last Spritz. Transfer to the airport.
