Customize Internet Explorer 8
Internet Explorer 8 was the last version released by Microsoft for the Windows . This guide describes how to install the free version of Internet Explorer 8 on Windows , and how to set the default browser to Internet Explorer 8 on Windows .
The Internet Explorer (IE) 8 client that ships with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) is available for download in two different versions, 32-bit and 64-bit, and the appropriate version should be used depending on what operating system and hardware architecture are being used. This article demonstrates how to download, install, and configure Internet Explorer 8 with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 using the 32-bit version of the client on a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate installation.
In order to download the IE 8 client, you must have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 installed (7SP1) with Internet Explorer 8 already installed. The IE 8 client that ships with Windows 7 SP1 is available for download here and in the download section of the article for this topic.
During the installation process, you can check off the check box to automatically update the Internet Explorer 8 client and to install the latest optional updates that are available.
After the installation is complete, launch Internet Explorer 8 and you should see an Internet Explorer 8 Welcome screen similar to the one in Figure 1.
If you prefer to set Internet Explorer 8 as the default browser on your system instead of Firefox, Internet Explorer 8 will still launch when you click on links to web sites in your web browser. However, you will notice that these links will open in Firefox when using the Edge browser.
Go to Internet Options and select the General tab.
In the Internet Options dialog box, scroll to the “Default Web Browser” section.

Click OK to close the dialog box.
When you are ready to switch back to Firefox, uncheck the “Internet Explorer 8” check box by selecting it in the Default Web Browser section of the Internet Options dialog box.
