ITALIAN OPERA & THEATRE TOUR 10 days

Day 1: MILAN: Welcome to Milan! Meet your driver and transfer to your hotel in the city centre. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at hotel.

 

 

Day 2: MILAN: After breakfast at the hotel, meeting with the guide and visit the Last Supper, the 15th-century mural painting by Leonardo da Vinci, one of the world’s most famous paintings, included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites list. Visit San Maurizio ancient monastery and its wonderful frescoes by Bernardino Luini; the site includes a cloister and two ancient towers, part of the Roman walls and circus. Lunch at leisure. Guided visit to the Teatro Alla Scala, the world-renowned opera house and to its beautiful museum, where it is possible to admire rare musical instruments dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th century, porcelains, opera costumes and many other objects related to the theatre. Theatre performance at La Scala: opera, concert or ballet (depending on performance dates). Overnight in Milan.

 

 

Day 3: MILAN – PAVIA – MILAN: After breakfast, private transfer to Certosa di Pavia, a 14th-century historical complex renowned for its architecture, in both the Gothic and Renaissance styles, that includes a church, a monastery, and some beautiful cloisters. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, visit of the ancient and fascinating city of Pavia with its vast amount of artistic and cultural treasures, its medieval towers and one of the oldest universities in the world, where, according to legend, Christopher Columbus had his studies in the 15th century. Theatre performance at Teatro Fraschini, one of the most prestigious monuments of the city, so-called after the Italian tenor Gaetano Fraschini (depending on performance dates). Return to Milan. Overnight.

 

 

Day 4: MILAN: After breakfast, guided visit to Poldi Pezzoli, one of the most significant house-museums in Europe, enriched by the finest private art collection made up of paintings from the 14th to the 18th century by Botticelli, Mantegna, Piero Della Francesca, and Tiepolo. Besides the paintings, the collection includes about 3000 items of wonderful jewellery, Murano glass, porcelain, arms and armors, tapestries and carpets, furniture and archaeology. Lunch in a charming restaurant. Visit the Scala Ansaldo workshops where it is possible to admire handmade works for the production of the opera performances like set design, sculptures, carpentry works, mechanics workshop, set assembly, costume workshop, costume design, and over 60,000 stage costumes. Guests can spend some time to visit the showrooms of the great Italian fashion brands, like Giorgio Armani, Dolce&Gabbana, Versace, Prada, at the Quadrilatero Della Moda (Fashion District), escorted by a personal shopper that will unveil the best of Italian luxury. Later they can spend some time in an exclusive SPA environment to enjoy individual treatments and massages, personal fitness, Finnish sauna, Steam bath and a heated relaxation pool with panoramic views overlooking the city. Theatre performance at La Scala: opera, concert or ballet (depending on performance dates). Overnight in Milan. 

 

 

Day 5: MILAN – VERONA – LAKE GARDA: After breakfast at the hotel, private transfer to Verona. Meeting with the guide and visit ancient palaces, squares, bridges, churches of this beautiful city, shrouded in history and delivered to the myth of Shakespeare’s masterpiece “Romeo and Juliet”. The tour begins at the Arena, the Roman monument widely known around the world for its magnificent opera performances. The walk will lead you to the old market square, the centre of economic and social life in Verona since the Middle Ages, defined by the Guardian “Italy’s most stunning piazza”. A walk will lead guests through the old castle and the stone bridge that crossed the river to the Basilica of San Zeno. In this thousand-year-old church, according to tradition, the marriage of Romeo and Juliet took place. Lunch in a charming restaurant in the old town. In the afternoon, private transfer to the touristic airport; on a small plane you will enjoy the most beautiful sight of Verona; subject to weather conditions, the pilot will fly over Lake Garda and the fascinating castle of Sirmione. Accommodation in the luxury country mansion outside Verona, Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà***** where you will rest and get ready for an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the opera in an unmatched scenario, a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre, the Arena (depending on performance dates). In case the Arena season should be over, our clients will enjoy a private concert in a spectacular 18th-century villa, surrounded by an English-style garden, close to Verona. After the performance, dinner in a charming restaurant. Overnight in Hotel.

 

 

Day 6: VERONA – MANTUA – VERONA: After breakfast, private transfer to Mantua, the city of Rigoletto. Meeting your guide and visit the Palazzo Ducale, the famous residence of the Gonzaga, the ducal family that ruled the Duchy of Mantua until the 18th  century. In this astonishing palace, one of the largest in Europe, it is possible to admire Renaissance masterpieces, including the famous “Bridal-Chamber” by Andrea Mantegna. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon visit of the Bibiena Theatre, a masterpiece of the late baroque period, an exquisite jewel for the balance between movement and elegance. Just over a month after its inauguration, in 1770, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gave a memorable concert in this theatre. A walk among the most beautiful squares of the city will lead you to visit the house of Rigoletto. The itinerary ends at Palazzo Te, a shining example of a Renaissance palace of delights. Dinner at a charming restaurant in Mantua. Return to Verona and overnight at Due Torri Hotel*****.

 

 

Day 7: VERONA – VICENZA – VERONA: After breakfast, private transfer to Vicenza to visit Teatro Olimpico, the first and oldest covered theatre of the modern era, designed by the Renaissance arch star Andrea Palladio in 1580. The theatre, built in a pre-existing medieval building, was opened in 1585, after the construction of the wooden structures, which have come down to us in an excellent state of preservation. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, walking tour along the old city of Vicenza, to discover its monuments and its beautiful palaces designed by Palladio. Transfer to Villa La Rotonda, the 16th Century masterpiece by Palladio; along the centuries this monument has been visited by poets and artists, sovereigns and statesmen, art amateurs and travellers. “Maybe never architectural art has reached such a level of magnificence,” said J. W. Goethe, the German writer, after the visit to La Rotonda. Exclusive dinner and private concert at Villa La Rotonda (depending on performance dates). Return to Verona. Overnight.

 

 

Day 8: VERONA – VENICE: After breakfast,  private transfer to Venice. Exclusive guided tour in the heart of the city: Piazza San Marco, the Basilica and the Palazzo Ducale; this itinerary allows you to unveil the history, the power and the tradition of the Repubblica  Serenissima. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, a walk to find the places that tell the history of courtesans and debauchery in Venice, starting from the 14th century until the fall of the Republic in 1797. Light dinner. Opera performance in a 15th century noble Venetian Palace, facing the Canal Grande, enriched by frescoes of great Venetian painters like Tiepolo (depending on performance dates). Overnight in Venice at Bauer Palazzo*****L.

 

 

Day 9: VENICE: Breakfast at the Hotel. Today visit Ca’ Rezzonico, a magnificent palace, now the seat of a Museum of the 18th century, designed by the greatest Baroque architect of the city, Baldassare Longhena; through the centuries many important painters in Venice,  among them Tiepolo, were called to decorate the palace. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon visit Teatro La Fenice with an expert guide that leads guests to discover the theatre and its spaces: Foyer, Hall Theatre, Royal Box and Sale Apollinee. After the visit, guests are ready for the performance: in one of the Apollinee Hall, reserved exclusively for them, they will enjoy a cocktail before the performance and during intermission (depending on performance dates). Overnight at the hotel.

 

 

Day 10: VENICE DEPARTURE: After breakfast at hotel, private transfer to the airport.
