LET'S GO FISHING

The following options are available to you when in Italy...

Fisherman for a day in Le Cinque Terre:  Set amid some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the planet, these five ingeniously constructed fishing villages can bolster the most jaded of spirits. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997, sinuous paths traverse seemingly impregnable cliff sides, while a 19th-century railway line cut through a series of coastal tunnels ferries the footsore from village to village. Of course, the best way to discover Le Cinque Terre is aboard a typical fisherman's boat (a 'gozzo'). Become a fisherman for a day and learn their secrets.  In the morning you will leave with the fishermen and their private little fishing boats. Learn how to throw the “giacchio”, a special and traditional fishing net. Waiting for fish, you will be able to visit charming villages on the Riviera and admire the beautiful landscape of Le Cinque Terre. You will have the chance to be guided by the fishermen and listen to their interesting stories about the Cinque Terre. Then, back to the boats, you can check how much fish has been caught and……part of that will be yours!  At the end of the fishing day you will bring home the fish you have been catching and you will be given precious tips on how to cook it as if you were a local!

Or enjoy a day of fishing with local fishermen on the Island of Ischia where you will learn all the tricks of the trade and get to learn how this skill has survived over the years. After your experience, we can head to a restaurant by the sea or head somewhere to cook your catch of the day.....

If you are heading off to Sicily, today it is possible to follow in the local fishermen’s footsteps thanks to this exclusive tour restricted to a small number of participants to guarantee and enhance an authentic experience. The meeting point is a centrally located office where our tour leader will be waiting to lead you to the Isola Bella nature reserve on board a comfortable minivan, and will be on hand to assist you throughout the tour.  You will then descend the steps that lead to one of the most renowned places in Taormina - Isola Bella - defined as the Pearl of the Mediterranean by the famous German Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden. After a fascinating visit to the Grotta Azzurra and bays of Taormina in a typically Sicilian wooden fishing boat, you will stop at a local fishing spot. Our local fisherman will show you the tools used every day to catch local fish. Get ready to get your hands dirty preparing the bait, and feel the lines tug as you hook some local delicacies. You will learn to fish like a true Sicilian fisherman and locals who regularly enjoy this past time.

With the fishing over there's just enough time for a dip in the shimmering blue waters, then it's time to enjoy a meal. Our chef will prepare and serve you lunch just a few metres from the water's edge.
