The creation of The Italian Connection which then evolved into Spirito Italiano started off by accident. There was no set plan to start a business. Having finished a degree in Italian & French Economics and politics then deciding to opt for a postgraduate in Business studies, it was all about what to do next. The degree was really all about spending more time in Italy and experiencing a little bit more of what the country had to offer. My parents had left back in the 1950s so of course, my first port of call was to start from the small village in Avellino and then work my way slowly northwards.  It was all about getting to see as much as possible and to experience the culture, the traditions, the different regions and towns, and small villages which remained untouched as far as visitors. Italy was still a secret which I was slowly uncovering and I just loved it.

I yearned for the unique and the authentic and as I made my way through the country, the people I met were just as passionate and excited as I was. It was from these different encounters and adventures, that I made the conscious decision, after having lived here for over 2 years, to head back home and set up a travel company.  I wanted to share my discovery and connect with people, showing them the endless possibilities. At the time the market was very "star-based", so if you went to Italy, the choices were 3, 4 or, 5-star accommodation. Due to the places I had experienced, I decided to offer something a little different. It was all about the B&B, the family-run venue which only had a few rooms, but had something so very special which you at the time, you could not find in a standard style hotel. I started to focus on the 3 main cities… Venice, Florence, and Rome, and with these a combination of “experiences” which could be enjoyed. This was so successful, that we started to add more cities, then towns, then villages, and before you knew it, we had the whole of Italy covered. Our portfolio of B&Bs and hotels, Relais, country villas and apartments, local guides, restaurants… began to grow and grow. We travelled everywhere, especially focusing on off-the-beaten-track locations, unknown towns which were just so perfect, looking for the unique and the authentic. We focused on the best way to experience the surroundings without losing precious time. It was all about the sharing so that every single moment could be fully absorbed.

If you are a curious traveller and wish to delve into the heart of Italy and find its true soul, then look no further as Spirito Italiano has been created with only you in mind.

Due to the uniqueness of the holiday, there is no set price in place as the prices have to vary. It is all subject to the time of year, the number of nights, the accommodation selected, what is included, the type of flight, train journey or car hire, etc.  The packages we create reflect the budget provided by you, or slightly under or just over.  We will discuss all offers and discounts if available and we do provide you with choices, allowing you to mix and match, save money or perhaps add some other elements to the trip which you would not have thought of. We do charge a booking fee for all our package holidays. The fee is £ 45.00 which will be added to the overall cost of the booking.

Step One: We can start by having a chat by phone or if you feel up to it, put a few ideas in an email so that we can start the dialogue. You may know the type of holiday you are after or you may just want us to “inspire” you. To do this we will need to get a sense of what you are looking for.  There will of course be a series of questions on our part and a bit of to-ing and fro-ing and then we will put the initial day-to-day itinerary together for you. This will not include the detail, flights, hotels, etc it will only review the itinerary as we need to ensure that it is not too much or too little for you. This part is often completed within 24 hours.

Step Two: Once you are happy to continue, it is at this point that the detail starts to take place which will also include the price. This part will also provide you with a range of choices as far as flights, accommodation, guides, and excursions, etc. These choices are important as it will show you what is possible within your budget.  As we progress a bit of fine-tuning may be required.

Step Three: When you are happy to go ahead and book, we will require a deposit which is 30% of the total value of the booking, plus of course the booking fee. There is often the possibility and we will advise you immediately, that the initial flight offered or the special offer on the villa may no longer be available due to the time elapsed so before we book and confirm we will advise you of any possible supplements.

Step Four: Before you set off, if you wish to add another element to the trip or you would like us to book that special tasting menu at Il Castello Restaurant for example, or perhaps have a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for you when you get to your accommodation, that is fine, just think of us as your private concierge.

Step Five: It is time for you to set off. You will have everything you need; tickets, documents and not forgetting a tailored itinerary created just for you so that you get to experience every moment within the time you have available.  We will provide you with suggestions and recommendations.
